Botanical Perfumery Classes

IN PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA

We invite you to journey with us through the enchanting realm of scent. Aromatic botanicals have been revered across cultures throughout the ages as a portal through our emotions, desires, and dreams. Perfume has held a core place in our rituals, from those celebrated in ceremony to even the most intimate ones of our daily lives. From medicine to magic, botanical essences have been a part of our lives for centuries. Engaging with them is akin to time travel, where we can smell and experience the same aromas our ancestors did, straight from the earth. Enveloping ourselves daily with the life force of botanicals through perfumery is one of the great pleasures of life, and engaging in the art of creating perfume is a reward in its own rite.

This class is taught by our Founder, Carole Addison-Goyne, who has been working with medicinal and aromatic plants for the past three decades, from distilling essential oils and creating products to sharing the wonders of perfumery and aromatherapy in classes and seminars throughout the country (see below for more details about Carole).

ABOUT THE CLASS

Carole will cover the foundation and the art of natural perfumery, including some key concepts from Mandy Aftel's Slow Scent® method. We will explore the rich history and the elusive mystery of botanical essences as we also indulge our senses in exquisite, otherworldly aromas. We will experience beautiful aromatic rituals and then engage in a blending workshop where you will create your very own signature scent from a botanical perfumer’s organ of 18 key absolutes and essential oils.

ABOUT CAROLE

Our Nomad Botanicals Founder, Carole Addison-Goyne, has been in the aromatherapy, botanical perfumery, and natural products field for the past three decades. She has been fortunate to study with world-renowned mentors along her path, including Kurt Schnaubelt, PhD and Mandy Aftel, who are both international authorities and best-selling authors in their fields. Carole apprenticed and worked with Kurt Schnaubelt, PhD for years, teaching aromatherapy certification seminars and overseeing his essential oil business. Carole has also received several Natural Perfumery Slow Scent® Certifications from Mandy Aftel and continues to find some of her greatest joy in teaching about this timeless craft. Additionally, Carole was influenced by the pioneering botanical legacy of Horst Rechelbacher during her 15-year tenure as an executive with Aveda.

Through the years, Carole and her husband, Scott, have distilled essential oils in Northern California, and they were also engaged in the development of bringing to market medicinal and aromatic plants from Morocco, through a USAID project. In the midst of all of these endeavors, Carole earned her MBA and also followed her nose to Aveda where she spent a decade and a half in an executive leadership role. Through Carole's collective experiences, the concept of Nomad Botanicals was born. With a dream team beside her, the Nomad journey continues to evolve with vibrancy each day. Creating and sharing high quality aromatherapy lifestyle products with people around the world is Carole's dream come true.

Outside of Nomad Botanicals, Carole is a Director on the Board of Directors for HenHouse Brewing Company, which she and her husband co-founded after converting some of their essential oil stills into brewing equipment. She has also dedicated herself to community service, from chairing the MBA Alumni Forum at Sonoma State University in recent years to her current stewardship, serving as Secretary on the Board of the Sonoma Valley Certified Farmers' Market. Carole's involvement in her local community reflects her core values of being grateful and giving back.

A perfect day

I am a huge fan of Nomad. Galaxy roll-on is my all-time favorite. I had no experience making perfume and I love how natural botanicals can my mood and transport me to another realm. Carol is an amazing teacher. I learned so much about how scents can blend together and evolve. That there are notes just like in music. This was my first major outing since Covid and it was incredible to be around a group of like-minded people in a safe space. I spent the rest of the day smiling and so full of joy.

I wear the perfume that I created every day. It starts out warm and spicy, shifts to grassy and earthy. By the end of the day, it smells like beeswax and honey. It's like having heart magic at my fingertips anytime I need it.

BEST CLASS EVER!

I’ve been using Nomad products for the last few years. Since then, they are the only products I trust to use on my face/body. I am abundantly cautious when it comes to skin care, as I refuse to use anything with harsh chemicals. Nomad has changed my life, and skin care routine forever. When I found out that they were offering a perfumery class I jumped on the opportunity! I highly recommend taking the class to learn the fundamentals of the perfume making process from the incredibly knowledgeable Carole. Carole, Caroline and Josh made the experience creating my own signature scent one of the most memorable days of my life. I feel at ease knowing that my perfume is non-toxic and safe for everyday wear. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my scent and look forward to booking another class here in the future!

One Of A Kind Experience

I have been a fan of Nomad for the last 3+ years. It all started with the moisturizing hand sanitizer, I loved the smell and couldn’t stop using it. it didn’t take long before I fell in love with a handful of their other products and used them every day. I had always hoped they would launch a perfume or two, but knew when they did I would be a little hesitant as I’m extremely picky when it comes to perfumes. When I saw they launched this Botanical Perfumery Class I immediately booked it! I was so excited to finally create something I loved and could confidently wear everyday! After I left the class I was in complete awe of Carole and her team (Caroline & Josh.) Carole was so informative and everyone was so incredibly sincere. I ended up purchasing a kit they just launched so I could make a second fragrance at home! If my Friends/Family lived closer, I would be gifting these to everyone for Christmas.
If you’re contemplating on going, here’s your sign to reserve your spot and have the most extraordinary afternoon. It was truly magical.

Nomad Botanicals knocks it out of the Park

I have been buying Nomad's products since the day it opened its doors. The blends transport you all around the world, the quality is top of the line, and, just as important, the presentation is beautiful. Every time a new product is offered, I buy it, knowing how exquisite it will be. I recently attended the Perfume class in Petaluma and took my 91 year old mother. We had a grand time and learned enough basic perfume blending principals to begin playing with blending at home. Once again, the teaching was excellent, the presentation was beautiful, the students were interesting, and it was a lot of fun. The perfume kits have everything, including the oils, to make your own blends at home. I bought the perfume kits for each of my nieces. We can't wait for the next creation of Nomad Botanicals.
